2pianoteachers is a respected and popular name in Singapore’s music education scene, founded by musician couple Laurence Yu and Midorie Tjiawi. Both are classically trained performing pianists and dedicated music educators with decades of experience in nurturing musical talent. Their students have gone on to excel in various fields, with many entering renowned local arts institutions such as NAFA, LaSalle College of the Arts, and SOTA. Whether as professionals or passionate amateurs, these students continue to share their love of music through public performances and creative endeavors.

Laurence and Midorie have made Singapore their home since the early 2000s. As husband and wife, parents of two music-loving children, and lifelong musicians, they continue their journey as performers and educators, deeply committed to inspiring the next generation of musicians through 2pianoteachers and Artists Music Studio.

Beyond their teaching studio, Laurence and Midorie actively contribute to Singapore’s broader musical landscape. They serve as committee members of the Singapore Music Teachers’ Association and the NAFA Music Alumni Chapter, supporting professional development and advocacy in the arts. Laurence regularly performs with Singapore’s leading ensembles, including The Philharmonic Winds, Ding Yi Music Company, etc. Together, they also represent the Grand Opus Performing Competition (GOPC) in Singapore—bringing international stage opportunities to local young musicians.

Beyond their teaching, they are deeply involved in Singapore’s musical community—actively contributing as committee members of the Singapore Music Teachers’ Association and the NAFA Music Alumni Chapter. They also performs regularly with notable local ensembles such as The Philharmonic Winds and Ding Yi Music Company. Additionally, they represent the prestigious Grand Opus Performing Competition (GOPC) in Singapore, helping to bring international performance opportunities to young local musicians.
